5 Hours of CEUs appropriate for Speech-Language Pathologists will be available for this training. The South County SELPA is a Continuing Professional Development Provider through the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that such hours will fulfill licensing requirements.

Description: An early and accurate diagnosis of an autism spectru disorder (ASD) provides access to services and appropriate intervention. Speech-language pathologists (SLP) play a critical role in the assessment of children suspected of having an ASD. This training will address communication assessment across the spectrum, including Asperger Syndrome. Case studies, including relevant video examples across a range of ages and the spectrum, will be incorporated. Outcomes: Participants will: 1. Become familiar with the research on assessment of ASD, including the diagnostic criteria. 2. Develop the necessary knowledge needed to select appropriate diagnostic tools that includes standardized and non-standardized measures for children across the spectrum. 3. Understand how to set up and structure assessments for students who present with challenging behaviors.
