The South County SELPA is a Continuing Professional Development Provider through the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board. It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that such hours will fulfill licensing requirements.

Description: Selective Mutism (SM) is an anxiety based disorder that is often misunderstood and mismanaged. This introductory training focuses on the key characteristics, diagnostic criteria and includes an overview of intervention strageties. A collaborative approach that best supports a child with this diagnosis will be discussed, as well as the potential role of the speech-language pathologist in assessment and treatment. Outcomes: Participants will: 1. Become familiar with the criteria used to diagnose SM. 2. Identify at least three intervention strategies. 3. Identify potential members of a collaborative team appropriate for children with SM.
