Description: This training will address the neurologically based cognitive patterns and characteristics of children across the spectrum of autistic disorders. Areas of strength will be discussed. Implications of assessment and programming, including evidence based interventions and strategies from the National Standards Project will be highlighted. The role of the School Psychologist as assessor, consultant and service provider for students with autism will serve as the focus of this training. Outcomes: Participants will: 1. Understand how autism impacts a student's cognitive development, behavior, social interactions. 2. Be exposed to assessment tools and strategies, behavioral support and skills training resources. 3. Become familiar with necessary educational and behavioral supports for students with autism as cited in the National Standards Project and by the National Professional Development Center on ASD.
