Creating Science Rich Environments & Energy and You Workshop
 Description
  Audience:  Elementary School Grades 6-8 After School Professionals -Session 1-  Creating Science Rich Environments Kids ask questions. They want to know how things work, ask - What will happen if…and Why? Why? Why?   Learn how to capitalize on their interests as well as how to use what they learn in the real world. Use experiential learning and inquiry to guide children’s acquisition of science, engineering and technology knowledge and skill.   -Session 2- Energy & You® Start your students’ journey to energy efficiency education. Introduce fun, content standard aligned science curriculum into after school programs. Energy and You® provides professional development to teachers prior to classroom implementation.     These lessons help upper elementary students understand: ·        The importance of saving energy at school and at home ·        Renewable energy resources ·        The greenhouse effect and global warming ·        Energy transformations ·        The use of sunlight to produce electricity ·        Solar energy and how it heats your house   All training participants will receive Energyand You® kit which includes: curriculum, classroom materials, teacher lab coat, and reusable grocery bag.   Friday, March 9, 2012   8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Sign In & Networking   9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Training Location: Boys & Girls Club 1 Positive Place San Marcos, CA  92069   Please Note:  This training is intended for after school professionals from Vista, San Marcos, Encinitas, Poway, Escondido and Fallbrook School Districts  Please note: Photographs, video, film, and audio tapes may be taken during this event.  Description
Act Up: Visual & Performing Arts 101 Incorporating Visual and Performance Arts into After School (Rigor & Revelance - Audience:  K-12 After School Professionals) Location San Diego County Office of Education Main Campus 6401 Linda Vista Road San Diego, CA  92111 Room:  401/402 This workshop provides an overview of the Visual and Performing Arts Framework and Content Standards for the State of California, as well as resources and strategies for integrating the visual and performing arts into after school programs. Ron Jessee leads participants in a humorous and information-filled journey that includes networking opportunities and hands on activities. The workshop is interactive and filled with great resources. Participants will walk away with a copy of the California Framework and Content Standards document, visual and performing arts activities that are connected to the standards, and strategies for connecting visual and performing arts to the core school day.
