Accountability is as much about data quality as it is about test results. Erroneous data could potentially interfere with a school or school district's efforts to raise achievement. Additionally, without accurate data, teachers and/or school leaders may make faulty decisions about student placement, academic progress, and program quality.
This workshop (a) reveals the links between school data and accountability reporting; (b) exposes many of the common data issues with state and federal accountability reporting, emphasizing issues that directly affect AYP and API; and (c) provides ideas that address or resolve these common problems. The workshop's central purpose is to help insure high quality and accurate data from those individuals responsible for state and federal accountability reporting (e.g., district and school site test coordinators, student information system (SIS) staff, and other school leaders).
The workshop explores the following questions:
1. What data sources are used to complete which reports?
2. What are the common data errors?
3. What can be done to ensure high quality data? Event Date Mar 08, 2012 Location San Diego County Office of Education |

Leading Assessment for Learning
Are your teachers well-versed in monitoring student understanding throughout classroom instruction? Do they have a "toolkit" of strategies to draw students more actively into the learning process?
This workshop series will explore the philosophy and strategies associated with Assessment FOR Learning - those assessment experiences that happen during the learning process with the explicit intent of helping students learn more and building student ownership of their own learning. Research shows that the effective use of Assessment for Learning strategies can have a profound impact on student achievement, with the greatest effects on the most struggling students. These formative assessment approaches are particularly valuable in supporting and monitoring the progress of English learners, especially long-term ELs.
