MyTown: A New Resource from Constitutional Rights Foundation
Technology-driven, MyTown provides Flash presentations that tell the story of hypothetical settlers coming to California and establishing a town. Each Flash presentation sets up a small group activity that requires students to use critical thinking, reading, and civic skills to help the settlers make decisions and solve problems. Students are then given a "MyTown Mystery" assignment which has them apply concepts they learned from the Flash lesson to their own community as they conduct simple research activities about the history of their local community, as called for in the HSS standards.
MyTown is adaptable for use by a whole class or by small groups, requiring only one computer and no internet connection.
MyTown is connected to third-grade history-social science standards. The Flash presentations, student handouts, center cards, and teacher guide is included on a CD-ROM. Event Date Apr 18, 2012 Location San Diego County Office of Education |
